Are You “Tough-Minded”?

Our successful Comfort Keeper Caregivers are a lot like the expedition members—” tough-minded” and share a single goal.  “To bring together passionate, like-minded individuals so that we can improve the quality of life in the place our clients call home.”  It sounds simple but it isn’t.  We have a great team of support people to help our Comfort Keepers successfully navigate through the day and be that compassionate person that helps our clients age in place.  Shackleton was an inspirational leader, the captain of the ship, Robert Scott, was a great tactician and the officers all helped the crew keep up their spirits.  Our team is much the same!  As the crew of the ship found out, some days are better than others! When in the service of helping seniors age in place--they have their good times and bad.  Even though they love their caregivers they may not be as nice on their bad days.  This is where it helps to be “tough-minded”.  Remind yourself that there will be good days ahead!

Honor and Recognition often do come to our wonderful team—but Comfort Keepers are really not doing it for that reason.  They do it for how it makes them feel inside--feeling good about themselves and for the tremendous value they bring to others.  Seniors, Veterans, and families all count on them and learn how a great Comfort Keeper often will seem part of their family.

The Expedition of Ernest Shackleton

Inbound Recruiting|ShakeltonThis is the famous ad that Ernest Shackleton ran for his expedition in 1914.  Haven’t heard of it?  Twenty-eight men joined his expedition and were stranded in the Antarctic for nearly 2 years.  Their boat was destroyed by the ice, they had to eat their dogs to survive and they eventually were forced to a small barren island that had no resources for them to live off of.  A small group, including Shackleton, went for help, and even that part of the story is unbelievable as they took a small boat hundreds of miles and survived a trek over a mountain range in waist-high snow to get to civilization.  Bottom line: everyone lived!  Historians that have studied the group have often come to the conclusion that people responding to this ad were the ones “tough-minded” enough to survive the odds and shared a single goal.
